Sunrise

Since becoming a mother, there’s not been a day I haven’t watched the sun rise. I won’t pretend this is magical or even close to my favorite part of motherhood. There are certainly mornings I’d give anything for an extra fifteen minutes when I hear my son’s first murmurings of the day.

But, one day, I’ll miss it. When I’m 82 and sleep just fine on four hours a night, as old people do, I’ll recall the closeness of our mornings. The light filling each room, gradually. A life born, a life lived.
